My Son Imagines His Future While Exploring Our Past
What will toys look like in the future? Will robots take over? When will humans get to Mars? 6 year old Avery shares his big dreams and predictions for the future - from futuristic tech to space travel. But the journey doesn't end there. Additionally, Avery asks about his family's history and wonders how it will shape him.
Now, what does this drawing of an alien spaceship from Avery have to do with this episode? Well, Avery imagines the future in this episode of Times with Dad. Welcome back. Welcome back to Times with Dad. Can you say Times with dad, times Dad, how is dad? So this park started, how did you like doing Live earlier?
Very excited. I was wondering if you could do another live on Sunday. I'd never do a live like, like showing it to the camera and Apple, like doing stuff. How about this? How about this? How about, we'll go on Facebook Live right when we wrap up the episode. Oh, that's a good idea. Facebook Live, A lot of people go do Facebook Live.
A lot of people do some, do some things and after they do a video mm-hmm. And after a video game and after they literally, and after when they're, and after when they send it, I, I watched. A, you did a really good job doing the Facebook Live and, and saying, you know, hello to the audience and letting them know the name of the show times with dad.
Yeah. And saying names. I'm your do one. What is your idea about one of the, your, I look what is like the whole idea that you think we can do next time? Uh, the next time we can do a whole family, but we could do one on my birthday when we come back from my birthday party. How about that? Your, yeah. And your birthday's and after and after you can do it and after you can show my surprise.
We'll have to see what the future holds. You know what's so crazy about you guessing what you think you're gonna get for your birthday next week? You know what's so crazy about that? What? Is your guess in the future, and you know what this episode's about? What you telling me about the future? Ah, so I tell you about what you know.
Do you know what the future means? No. The future means, uh, what's going to come, like the, like it's going to come next in our timelines, like in our life, what hasn't happened yet. So like, so like if I was to ask you. What is tomorrow or what is next week or what do you, you know, how you like to tell me when I'm seven or when I'm 12 or when I'm 13?
You're telling me about the future. I'll tell you how old I'm, so, you know how old I'm, well, I know how old you are. If I, if I ever forget, that's a problem. Yeah. Yeah. If I just, I just say it so that everybody knows how old I am. So, Avery. Yeah. You said something recently to mommy and uh. It was pretty funny you asked Mommy if she used to play with wood toys when she was a kid.
Yeah. Why did you ask, why'd you ask her that? 'cause I dunno. I, I wanna know if, if, well if you, if you guys were in the past, I know we were in the past, but I just wanna know if you were in the past. What do you think the, what happened in the past? What do you think happened? Uh, you got, you guys were playing with wooden toys.
Uh, you had to ride on horses or, or, or like some, uh, things that have, I don't know what they're called. Stripe horns.
Are you talking about a unicorn? No, not a unicorn. Two horns that along. That, along on what? What the, the on book. They said before the radio road came. Before the, what came? The ray road. Oh, the railroad came, yeah. Before the railroad came in. A book said that.
Yeah. Ava, you've seen the railroad before. That's what trains ride on. They're ride on railroads. We used to when we lived in Georgia, right? Yeah. I know you don't remember Georgia, but I'm gonna tell you something. When we lived in Georgia, we used to have a railroad track in the back, in the back of our house, so a few times a day, a train used to drive by, and you can hear it if he was in the backyard.
Oh yeah, I, now I remember, I, I re, I remember I own our old house, but I didn't remember when I was a baby because, because I've been seeing myself growing only. Yeah. And after only when I was four, I saw my life. Oh yeah. Let me tell you, let me, let me ask you something, since you thought mommy played with wood toys, right?
And you remember what toys you used to play with, and now that mommy and daddy are having twins and they're gonna have twin siblings. What do you think the twins are gonna play with? What kind of toys? Maybe. Toys? Yeah, but what kind of toys you think they're gonna be made outta wood. You think they're gonna be made outta metal?
Do you think they're gonna be like in video games? You think they're gonna be what? Like what kind of toys do you think though? Uh, they're gonna be normal toys for like we have, but they're like electric and like stuffies, but that are normal. So not gonna change much. Uh, but we gonna get, like, we can get, so then we have, you have to get four stuff.
So, so two for the a, uh, twin and every, the two other toys for twin B. Yeah. We only need two toys for one baby. Baby. Yeah. So we have to get double of everything is what you're saying? Yeah. Yeah. Double, not like triple.
And now we have to get six items. Let me ask you another question. You told Mommy that Val used to ride horses when she was a kid. Why did you say that? Um, 'cause I wanna know if Marvel was in the, in the, in the past. So you think people in the past used to ride horses? Like when you say the past, you keep, you keep saying the past.
How many years ago are you talking about? Like a hundred years, 50 years. Like when I have kids. Daddy. When you have kids. Yeah. I like, I wanna tell them my mom and dad were in the, I wasn't in the, okay. What were you on? Uh. I don't know. Cars, planes, trains, buses. Oh, plane. Oh, cars. Cars, houses and, and planes.
Many different kind of things. Right. And then, and then Marvel, who's your grandma? Used to ride horses. But guess you were gonna pass and you if she was older. And what about me? Did I use to ride horses or no? Yes. When you. For a teenager. So you think I know how to ride a horse? Yeah. You ever, you ever see me on a horse?
No. Because I ever tell you I was on a horse. No, you never tell me about the past daddy. If the past is what you're assuming it to be, can you tell me what the future is gonna be like? Are people gonna be in like flying cars? Teleportation? What do you think? Uh, I dunno, but I I But cars still fly. People don't have teleportation.
Only superheroes have teleportation, but superheroes are not real. Wait, there's some good guys. There's some bad eyes, right? Correct. But does not look like bad guys. So you don't think we're gonna invent teleportation? Yeah, teleportation is. It's only like if you wanted it or if you wished it in one group, your your wish will not come true.
Only if such, if something in earth. What about robots? Do you think this is gonna be real robots? People can make robots. Do you think we're gonna have robots? Do you think you're gonna have like a robot, like take care of all your stuff for you? Oh, yeah, but you're, but you're a builder. I bet you could build a robot.
Well, there's building a robot, there's programming a robot, there's training a robot. There's a lot of things in there. You think I know how to do all that. I, I believe you could build a robot. I'm thinking I'm severely underpaid now. So, Avery, I wanna know, what do you wanna be when you grow up? Uh, a bail and a.
Why, why a builder in a fire? Oh, wait, wait, wait. One more. Uh, and a policeman. Why, why do you want to be those things? So, so I could catch bad guys and so, so, so thiefs don't take any, any people's things or, or if, or if they're, or.
Kiss Jail. I dunno. Well, I can, but I, but I know you could catch bads or put KISS to jail. They, they're kids jails. Oh yeah. It's called juvenile delinquents. Who are the, the basically the prisoners for the juvenile detention centers. And there, and there's dogs and cats. Jails too. They're dog and cats. Jails.
Yeah. What are they called? I dunno, but, but I, but I believe they're called pets. Jails. Pets, jails. That sounds legit. Uh, what about this, if you can go either in outer space or deep in the ocean, which one would you do? Outer space. Why? So I could see what, so I can see, uh, the planets close and farther. Which planets do you wanna see?
Um, moon. Uh, Jupiter
and Mars, you wanna land on them or you wanna just see them from outta space? Right. I wanna see them from far and in. Oh, so you, do you wanna land on them? Do you think, do you think that we'll ever actually land on Mars in, in our lifetime? Like do you think when you're like daddy's age, people are gonna be living on Mars?
Uh, I. Do you think we're gonna get there? How? By like a spaceship? Uh, yeah, spaceship. How, how long do you think it's gonna take if we went to Mars? Like how long? Uh, 48 hours maybe. You think? Only we'll get there within two days. Yeah. Wow. I mean, you got, you got some good predictions here. Uh, what about, what about this when, when Marvel was a kid, right?
People landed. On the moon. Did you know that? Oh, people, I know. People land on the moon. Yeah. So like, what is it? 60 years ago we landed on the moon. How many years until we land on Mars? Uh, 68 days. We'll be in Mars within 68 days from today. I feel like, so, oh, we're closer than I thought, brother. I think teleportation isn't that far away.
Let me ask you this question. Yeah. If you can time travel, would you go in the past or in the future? Uh, past, where in the past. Where, where you guys were? Well, I mean, like, I'll ask a question like this. When you say the past, I'm asking like, do you think you go to like when I was a kid, do you think you go to, like when it was dinosaurs, how far back would you go?
Oh, when you were, when you were a kid. When I was a kid? Yeah. And what are you looking to see? Uh, see what you did. Oh, so you just want to know what IL what I was like as a kid. Yeah. So I wanna know what you did as a kid and you're gonna try to learn anything, or you gonna try to copy it? What, uh, copy it.
Wanna So, so, so when I was, so when, so when I'm a growing up, um, I could tell my kids, yeah. When I was growing up, how many kids do you want? Uh, 78. Wait, hold. You said 78 kids. You're gonna be busy. You need to be basically like a gazillionaire to have 78 kids. 78 kids, that, that way, well, some might can go have to go to school.
Some might have to go to, go to, uh, their grandmas. Grandpas Or go, go, go.
And, and a different kind of mom. We had to go to a date, then we had to take like some kids to, like, if I was you and we have 78 kids and after Mommy was here, then you then not two grown have to split out and after seven have to stay. They not have, have a grown
live us. And they stay and them
take them and for, so when they see us coming, they could go back home with some kids and take of the. You have, you have a lot of children in your future. Yeah, I just, I just, I just didn't know if I like, like pretend there are one turns grownup and they say I wanna stay with you. Then we have an extra grownup.
That's true. So ri I wanna, I'm gonna pass this over to you 'cause you told me you would like to end the episode. How would you like to end the episode?
Is the end. See? See you're in the next episode. And I'll say some and say, and say goodbye or like different kind of words. So that's how you want to end it. Okay? So end it. This is the end of of, of our podcast. We see you later on the next podcast. Bye-bye. And I hope you have a great time with your mommy.
